Class A Foam
Class A fires are the most common application for Class A foams which are effective on three-dimensional, organic materials such as wood, paper and rubber. Class A foams were developed in mid-1980s for fighting wildfires. Class A foams lower the surface tension of the water, which assists in the wetting and saturation of Class A fuels with water. This aids fire suppression and can prevent re-ignition. Favorable experiences led to its acceptance for fighting other types of class A fires, including structure fires.
Phos-Chek WD 881 was developed specifically for use in Wildland Fire Management and at the rural/urban interface. The results obtained by Wildland Fire Management Agencies around the world prove its value. While providing excellent performance in wildland fires, this foam is less expensive and is used at lower concentrates (from .02% to 1%), making it a cost-effective tool in today's wildland fire activities.
FEATURES OF PHOS-CHEK CLASS A FOAM
- Phos-chek is the most concentrated Class A foam available
- Contains no EPA listed hazardous materials

- Meets USDA Spec 5100-301a for aerial and ground application
Phos-Chek Class A Foam concentrate is specifically formulated to make water more effective. The unique combination of surfactants significantly reduces water' surface tension and penetrates deep into Class A fuels, creating a barrier between the fuel and the fire, reducing the amount of water needed to fight fire. Class A Foam performs exceptionally well in foam application equipment including:
- Eductors and Around the Pump Systems
- Direct Injection System
- Compressed Air Foam systems (CAFs)
